Interview with an Army Wife - Mrs. Suruchi Singh Vaid

Tell me a little about yourself. Your profile

My name is Suruchi Singh Vaid. I was born and brought up in Ujjain, a town in MP. I have done my graduation and PG in the field of nutrition and have specialised in cardio n neuro patients from AIIMS, Delhi. I have worked as a dietician as well as a nutritionist.  Presently, I am pursuing Ph.D in the same field.

Pls share your achievements with us, eg -  Award, Certificate, Experiences where you won an championships, any experience with sports. If you a player. Done any charity etc

Well no such particular achievements but yes I got the  highest grades in M.Phil.. and distinction all throughout... but no interest in sports... I got prizes for dance always, as I love that.. and painting and sketching too.

What were the biggest adjustments you had to make regarding your relationship, family and schedule during deployment?

Well yeah adjustments were there... till now my husband has been away for 1 year and I was newly married at that time.. it was like a shock to me.I used to wait for that 2 min call everyday n then  only  I was able to eat and be fine. because then I knew that he is alive... that was d only thing i wanted .I kept doing my Phd work to be kinda busy and kept shuttling between my parent's home n my in law's home... all were very supportive.

What is the hardest part about being an army wife

Hardest part of being an army wife comes when u have to let your partner go when u know he is not going to any safe place n u even can’t do anything abt it... when his chhutti gets cancelled... all planned trip gets cancelled n suddenly d order comes to report back.

From whom do you get support while he’s gone?

 Family is my support...

What have you learned about yourself and your relationship throughout the process of deployment? Do you think your relationship became stronger because of it?

Well I came to know  that I am much stronger than what I used to feel about myself. That yes finally i fell in love with a guy. And that I am much more responsible..
Yes, relationship definitely gets stronger when we are apart.. its like we get our honeymoon period again every 2 to 3 years, Love grows, relationship grows and we grow!

What advice would you give other military spouses in your position?
Well I am nobody to advice but still i would say .. try n keep urself busy.. Be your partner's strength... enjoy life as when u r happy, he is happy.. and have faith... u r  very strong n can deal with any situation in life.. cheers!

Is there anything else I should know about you, your work or military life?

And for ladies, there are teaching prospects in  army... army schools pay well... there are NTT courses in many stations and starting salary for pre primary schools is almost 11k... though it increases with higher classes... and if u know arts n craft, or such things, u can teach ppl there.
